MAPARADOXTERRA WAS A SOLO EXHIBITION PRESENTED IN 2013 AT THE MUSEO LA TERTULIA IN CALI. CONCEIVED AS A SPATIAL AND CONCEPTUAL INTERVENTION WITHIN THE MUSEUM’S CINEMATHEQUE, THE INSTALLATION CRITICALLY EXAMINED THE PARADOX BETWEEN “MAP” AND “TERRITORY,” QUESTIONING HOW CARTOGRAPHIC REPRESENTATIONS SHAPE, DISTORT, AND EVEN REPLACE LIVED REALITY. DISRUPTING THE CONVENTIONAL VIEWING POSITION BY BLOCKING THE THEATER SEATING, PREVENTING PASSIVE SPECTATORSHIP AND FOREGROUNDING THE BODY’S DISPLACEMENT WITHIN SYSTEMS OF REPRESENTATION. THROUGH DRAWING, VIDEO, PHOTOGRAPHY, AND PERFORMATIVE ACTIONS, THE PROJECT ENGAGED WITH MAPS OF LANDS MARKED BY EXTRACTIVE CONFLICT IN COLOMBIA, TRACING TENSIONS BETWEEN RURAL TERRITORIES AND URBAN IMAGINARIES. BY EMBODYING CARTOGRAPHIC IMAGERY IN PRINTED SUITS AND STAGED JOURNEYS ACROSS CONTESTED LANDSCAPES, THE WORK EXPOSED THE ILLUSION OF OBJECTIVITY EMBEDDED IN MAPPING TECHNOLOGIES. MAPARADOXTERRA ULTIMATELY PROPOSED THAT MAPS, RATHER THAN NEUTRAL TOOLS, ARE ACTIVE AGENTS IN THE POLITICAL CONSTRUCTION OF TERRITORY—SIMULTANEOUSLY REVEALING AND CONCEALING THE SOCIAL, ECOLOGICAL, AND CORPOREAL REALITIES THEY CLAIM TO REPRESENT. IN THE CONTEXT OF CALI AND VALLE DEL CAUCA, SUGAR WAS EMBODIED IN THE SCULPTURES AND PERFORMATIVE PIECES THROUGH THE PRESENCE OF COTTON CANDY, AS A SUTIL AND SEDUCTIVE PRESENTATION OF HOW COLONIALITY AND VIOLENCE ARE PACKED IN ‘INOCENT’  EVERY DAY LIFE FORMS.
